Following the tremendous success of 2019's, "Hangin' On The Line" CD, Chris is working on a new album with longtime friend and producer, Andy Bradley. He had two number one country hits in Indie World Report last year with "A Lot More Than a Little" and "One True Love". Several songs also went to number one in Europe. The new as yet untitled CD will feature a number of reworked or rerecorded older songs from his archive. The new album will feature two duets. The first is an incredible song written by legendary country/blues singer songwriter, Bert Wills, titled "A Girl Like That". The second is a reworking of one of Chris's most popular songs, "Miracles". The duet features the amazing blues/pop singer, Evelyn Rubio. She has also had chart success. The song features some magical guitar playing by the late great, Kenny Cordray. Musicians on these older and new recordings include Andy's track team from Wire Road Studios, loving referred to as "terminal waste". The team includes Paul English, Tyson Sheth, Rankin Peters, Mark Andes, David Craig, Wayne 'Animal' Turner, Guilherme Fonseca, Bert Wills, Brian Thomas and Hillary Sloan. The latest recording session occurred on the day all non-essential businesses (i.e. recording studios) were closed down for Covid-19 virus mediation. Besides 'Miracles' and "A Girl Like That' we recorded 'Great American Hero', 'Slippin', and 'Crystal' Visions'.
The CD, "second Helpings" was released in early August and seven songs are getting airplay on Americana and Roots music stations and three songs are charting in those genres. Chris went into Wire Road with Bert Wills and the trio of Paul English, Rankin Peters, and Tyson Sheth a week ago to record a video/audio release of the CD. The pandemic has all but terminated significant live performances for awhile. These will be aired as soon as editing and mixing are completed.
First, this concert sold out. The recording is so special because of the interplay between Bert and the capacity audience. He played and sang for over two and a half hours without a pause. We all had so much fun putting everything together. The audience was amazing. Clint Boyd accompanied on Saxophone and bass harmonica with his very cool style and gentle personality.
Second, Andy Bradley Productions recorded Bert Wills at the ETC Theater in Galveston Texas with recording studio quality equipment. The venue was so different for Bert fans and they have been asking for this recording ever since that day. Fans will love the quality and attention to detail of the recording when it is released.
Third, the performance was video recorded by Garrett McCall, long time collaborator of Andy Bradley Productions. A fabulous video of "Mean Ole Woman" is currently available on U-tube (link).
Thanks to all Bert's fans. All we can say is, there was Huge respect from you in response to Bert's performance. We could not have done it without you!
Bert's album was released early August to rave reviews. CDs have been sent out to all the major blues radio stations including KPFT, Houston. It is already getting quite a bit of airplay. This CD is the first release by Andy Bradley Productions new label, Mort Records. The CD is selling quite well by mail order from Mort Records via bertwillsmusic.com. Bert and Andy will be interviewed by Gladys Fuentes of the Houston Press, Saturday the 12th for an upcoming article about Bert, Andy Bradley Productions and Mort Records.
A new video of the song "In My Heart" was recorded at the same time as Chris Gardner's last date at Wire Road when Bert was the featured guitarist. They also did a video of the duet song,
"A Girl Like That" on Chris Gardner's CD, Second Helpings that was written by Bert and sung by the two of them with the studio band. We will let you know when that is released.
